The State of the Nation

Our nation appears to be headed for trouble.  State Uber Conservative Governors in several states are trying to ram through legislation that will give them supreme powers over governmental entities in their states.  Not good.  Study history and see where countries who tried to suppress their citizens like this  ended up.

Our national government and our media are in disarray and saying things they can't support.
If Congress wants to do something effective, slice the IRS budget, stop using them as a tool to annoy Americans, and inquire when it gave the IRS powers to say what taxes, penalties, and rules will be the law.  Perhaps Cong Issa's oversight committee should start investigating this issue.

The healthcare companies like BCBS are continuing to hurt older americans.  How about CVS Pharmacies being fined millions for OverCharging patients.

Any citizen who looks at these things and is a student of history will understand what is happening.  If you would rather just sit back, shrug your shoulders, and say "Oh, well, there's just nothing we can do."  Look at those who protested in Wisconsin.  The voice of America is powerful, and we just need to start speaking up.

That's my 2 cents for today

Political Commentary Never Changes

I found this commentary in an old file I had.  The words come from those who have gone before us, but read them, think about them, and most of all, learn from them.

Yesterday's Quotes Still Apply Today

  • Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself.
    Mark Twain
  • I contend that for a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle.
    Winston Churchill
  • A government which robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.
    George Bernard Shaw
  • Democracy must be something more than two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner.
    James Bovard, Civil Libertarian (1994)
  • Foreign aid might be defined as a transfer of money from poor people in rich countries to rich people in poor countries.
Douglas Casey, Classmate of Bill Clinton at Georgetown University
  • Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys.
    P.J. O'Rourke, Civil Libertarian
  • Government is the great fiction, through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else. Frederic Bastiat, French Economist (1801-1850)
  • Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
    Ronald Reagan (1986)
  • I don't make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.
    Will Rogers
  • If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free.
    P.J. O'Rourke
  • In general, the art of government consists of taking as much money as possible from one party of the citizens to give to the other.
    Voltaire (1764)
  • Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn't mean politics won't take an interest in you.
    Pericles (430 B.C)
  • No man's life, liberty, or property is safe while the legislature is in session.
    Mark Twain (1866)
  • Talk is cheap ... except when Congress does it.
    Unknown
  • The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.
    Winston Churchill
  • What this country needs is more unemployed politicians.
    Edward Langley, Artist (1928 - 1995)
  • A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.
    Thomas Jefferson
  • It appears some political quotes never go out of style, because history has an uncanny tendency to repeat itself.

Healthcare, Liars, and Buffoons

I have been sitting here after watching for the 4th time, MSNBC's Keith Olberman's hour long presentation on healthcare. To date, he has presentede the most direct, common sense commentary on this crucial issue.

Personally, I try to perform due dilligence on every issue I am interested in, however, healthcare is one which fascinates me. Perhaps because I spent 18 years as a hospital administrator, in all of the systems, government, non-profit, for profit and religious, and I saw the profession from all sides. Perhaps because I am married to a Registered Nurse. Finally, perhaps because I have been a serious user of the systems, and know personally, how messed up things are.

I tend to agree with humorist Bill Maher when he says, "Just when I think Americans can't get any dumber, they go and prove me wrong!" Personally, I think Americans are so apathetic, they just don't really care to understand issues and certainly don't do their homework.

We continually re-elect the liars and buffoons we call congress and tend to believe everything these fools say. People, they're politicians, THEY LIE for a living. They also don't really care about their constituency until the voters get angry enough to kick their butts out of office. We allow the health insurance industry to buy the buffoons off with billions of dollars, and then wonder why we're slaves to the crooks at the insurance industry.

If you haven't heard Wendell Potter, former VP at Cigna for many years, then you need to listen. He is blowing the whistle on the crooks in the industry he was part of for than 20 years. He is telling the truth, of that I can assure you.

I've listened to the liars at organizations like AARP. Oh yes, they profess to be looking out for their members, but, all AARP is a giant insurance broker touting one of the worst, in my opinion, insurance companies in the country, United Health Care. I have yet to see AARP take a position against the insurance companies and for the public and members.

Stop allowing the right wing and left wing nut jobs affect your thinking. They have not done their homework and in most cases, are bought and paid for by these nutjobs.

If we as Americans do not stand up to the insurance industry and their lackeys, then nothing will change, and America will continue to decline.

The media in this country have failed miserably to tell the truth. Oh, yes, every so often they get something correct, but even that's becoming rare.
The broadcast media has become so one-sided, and so inundated with liars the likes of those that appear on CNN, FOX, and yes MSNBC, that the truth be damned and let's go for ratings!!

Take time to research and listen to all points of view and then try to find one that you adopt without getting crazy about it.

Think about it!!

Random Thoughts March 22, 2009

When I put this blog on line, I wanted to have a place to express my thoughts about what's going on in our world. I wanted to apply common sense and generalities. So here goes.

Did you ever wonder why the news media doesn't tell the truth? In my opinion they are as bas as the liars and thieves on Capitol Hill, and we know what they've done.

People seem to believe that it's time to "throw all the bums out" and start over.

We have a judicial system that favors those with money. Why? Is it time, as Shakespeare said to "get rid of all the lawyers?

Why can't we have a Universal, Single Payor Health System? It seems we can't do anything but all insurance companies to run our lives. Did you know they are exempt from Anti-trust laws? I overheard this on a recent TV program.

I listen to people complain all the time, but when I ask them what THEY are going to do to help correct our issues, they come up with a blank stare!

I listen to all sides of the political spectrum. I'm Independent in my thinking. Neither the Liberal nor the Conservative sides really make sense. In fact, I was listening to the Fix Noise bunch the other day, and I had to turn it off because their comments were so wrong and dangerous. Especially the ones espoused by Glen Beck, Bill O'Reilly, and Sean Hannity. These 3 seem to incite the populous to dangerous levels. And when they are caught in untruths, they, in my opinion, always blame others for their lack of truthfulness.

I wish more folks would take an Independent position and before they brand themselves Liberal or Conservative, they study ALL sides of the issues, and remember the quote, "Those that do not learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." May I suggest that you take a look at some of the great blunders in world history that cause many empires to crumble. Are we on that path?

That's it from my tent for today!
